Real Life Story - James and Ellie

James and Ellie fell in love with Tenerife, which has been their home since 2007.

“We regularly took holidays to Tenerife and each time were impressed with the changes taking place, so I knew it was time for a change. It has much to offer, including a fantastic and simplistic outdoor life.

For anyone moving here and, like us, wanting to set up a business, there are licences to obtain and business plans to prepare. It’s definitely worthwhile finding a reputable Gestor to help you out. You can do the leg-work yourself, but the locals know how the process works inside-out and can speak the language. This can save so much time.

The biggest problem for us wasn't setting up the business, but finding customers. Because we’re an internet-based business and most of our trade comes from overseas, it can be a real challenge at times. Like most people running their own business, we can find ourselves working long hours.

My biggest fear before moving here was that we’d find ourselves isolated but I needn’t have worried because the locals have been very friendly and made us feel welcome. You do have to make the effort though. We will often enjoy an afternoon barbeque or lunch at our local restaurant with friends.

We haven't yet bought our own home as we are happy to rent for now. Our apartment has everything we need including great views out to La Gomera.

Would we ever consider going back to the UK to live? The honest answer is yes. Despite everything that Tenerife has to offer, Ellie does miss her family so there is a very real possibility that we might go back at some point."
